Welcome!
I'm a printmaker and painter living in northern Kentucky. My inspiration comes from nature, people, words, stories, music, memories, poems, dreams -- in fact, whatever touches my life and leaves its impression upon me.
Art-making is a journey I began as a child and hope to continue as long as I'm breathing. There has always been something amazing about taking crayons, ink, pencil or watercolors and making marks that transcend the surface on which they lie and activate the powers of imagination. The primary goal of this activity is not just producing an object, but being immersed in a process, and from there, art carries both maker and viewer to places they have not been before.
Each medium has its own pleasures, but in the last few years I've become increasingly engaged with printmaking. The nuances of pigment and paper coming together under the pressure of a press are unique to this art form, and in a world where abundant images flood us from every sort of commercial and electronic media, the original print, with its tactile qualities and evidence of the artist's hand at work, has particular value.

Some of my recent printmaking work has been inspired by Herman Melville's literary masterpiece, Moby-Dick. I began the first pieces in 2004 and the series is ongoing. In January of 2009 I was awarded an Individual Artist Development Grant from the Kentucky Arts Council to help with my participation in an exhibit of contemporary art inspired by Moby-Dick, at the Rockford Art Museum in Rockford Illinois.
